The Teardrops Scarf came to life as another one ended. My father very suddenly died of lung cancer in January 2004, only eleven days after he was diagnosed. Our last day together was spent in the hospital and as I sat close to him I began to knit as I always do when in need of comfort. As the sun set, “Teardrops” had materialized, not from any pattern, but just as the stitches seemed destined to come together, and my father had quietly slipped away. I feel that he inspired its creation. The original will always be mine, but as time has passed, the purpose that Dad inspired has come to life not only in his memory but also in the memories and hopes of many others. |
